Skiing

Bates Skiiers Place 14th Overall at Nationals

Bates sent five skiers to Montana State University in Bozeman, Mont. for the championships. The Bobcats finished 14th overall and sixth among New England schools. For the alpine team, junior Kina Pickett finished 29th with a time of 145.58 seconds in the slalom and finished 24th with a combined time of 107.66 seconds in the giant slalom. Junior Sean Clark was disqualified from the slalom competition and finished 32nd in the giant slalom with a combined time of 118.36 seconds. For the nordic team, junior Katie Gould, the Bobcats' only female participant, finished 17th in the 5K freestyle race with a time of 17:32.6 and, 35th in the 15K classic race with a time of 56:19.6. Sophomore David Chamberlain finished 23rd in the 20K classic with a time of 1:05:34, while classmate Justin Freeman finished 36th with a time of 1:09:02. In the 10K freestyle race Chamberlain finished finished 16th with a time of 29:41.1 while teammate Freeman finished 17th with a time of 29:50.1..


Indoor Track

Weight Throwers, Myrick, Compete at Nationals

Three Bates men competed in the 35-pound weight throw at nationals, held at Smith College in Northampton, Mass. Senior Jon Eden and junior Sammy Martin tied for eighth place with throws of 49 feet, nine inches. Junior Spencer Potter, who had the team's top mark during the season, finished 12th with three fouls.

First-year student Adelia Myrick competed in the women's indoor track championships, also held at Smith. During the trials, she ran the 1500- meter run in 4:52.5, sixth in her heat, which did not qualify her for the the finals.
